Privacy Policy

Updated: August 23, 2026

This Policy explains the information used by Encounter with Words (the “Service”) and how it is handled.

1. Information we handle

  • Quote submissions: language, category, quote text, optional author name, optional review-notification email address, and submission time
  • Contact messages: optional name and email address, message text, and sending time
  • Usage information: pages viewed, interaction events, device and browser details, IP address, and similar logs
  • Browser storage: IDs of quotes liked in that browser and category-specific viewing queues and history

2. Why we use information

We use information to review and manage submissions, notify users who request approval or rejection results, respond to inquiries, provide likes, rankings and new-quote features, prevent abuse and spam, understand usage, improve the Service, and keep it secure.

3. Supabase

Supabase is used for quote data, submission status, author names, like counts, publication dates, and administrator authentication. User submissions are stored as pending and are shown publicly only after approval. Handling may be affected by the Supabase terms and the selected project region.

4. Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand use of the Service. Events include category selection, next quote, likes, sharing, completed submissions, and completed contact messages. Quote submission text, contact message text, names, and email addresses are not sent to GA4. Google handles analytics information under its own policies.

5. Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies for ad delivery and measurement. Personalization and cookie handling depend on Google ad settings and any consent settings that apply to the visitor.

6. Cookies and localStorage

GA4 and AdSense may use cookies or similar technologies. The Service uses localStorage to remember quote IDs liked in a browser and the viewing history needed to avoid repeats until a category’s published collection has been shown. You can delete this data in browser settings; doing so resets like state and viewing history.

7. Contact messages and email

Name and email are optional for contact messages. The email address on a quote submission is also optional and, when provided, is used only to notify that submitter of the approval or rejection result. We do not unnecessarily disclose these addresses to third parties or send them to GA4. Email is processed using the Xserver-hosted mail function.

8. Security and retention

We use measures such as access controls, Supabase Row Level Security, input validation, and rate limiting. Information is kept for a period reasonably needed for its purpose, operations, and applicable legal requirements, then deleted or made non-public when no longer needed.

9. Service providers and disclosure

We do not disclose information for unrelated purposes except where required by law. Providers including Supabase, Google, and Xserver may handle information to the extent necessary to operate the Service.

10. Contact and updates

Questions about privacy can be sent through the contact form. This Policy may be updated as the Service changes.
